The Children’s Parliament has now developed a toolkit for schools, and also a website that you will find useful. https://childrensparliament.uk
However, just to reassure you that if you are interested in electing a Child MP and a deputy you can do so via any democratic process of your own (for example, through your School Council). The guidance in the toolkit is a recommendation of good practice, not an absolute requirement.
Once you have elected your MPs you can register them at https://form.typeform.com/to/ldtZitgk
If you have any questions you can email Sharon Evans at evans.sharon.uk@gmail.com or info@childrensparliament.uk and, if you are able, you can join the flagship events in the quadrants to have your MPs sworn in. The dates/venues of those events are as follows:
- Friday 5th June – St Mary’s CE Primary, Saffron Walden
- Friday 12th June – Collingwood Primary, South Woodham Ferrers
- Friday 19th June – Spring Meadow Primary, Dovercourt, Harwich
If you miss those events then there will be an opportunity for their child MPs to be sworn in after the summer holiday. You have until the end of the summer term to elect your MPs this year.
The debate event in London in Parliament will be on 15th October between 2 and 6pm. This is the 5th anniversary of Sir David Amess's death and so the event will be a celebration of his life and legacy for children. Hopefully there will be capacity for your MPs to attend the event - more information to follow later in the term.
