Summer term primary headteacher meetings

Tuesday 4th June 2019

The summer term Area Primary Headteacher meetings will be held just after half term- see dates and venues below. The meetings will start at 9.00 am and will include, as always, refreshments and lunch. You are likely to want to attend your local meeting, but if the date doesn’t work for you please do attend any of the other meetings. There is no need to book the morning meeting, just turn up (leaving some time for parking) and enjoy the day.

The summer term newsletter will be circulated at the meeting, including the dates for the headteacher meetings in the 2019/20 school year

The dates of the meetings are:

N-EAST         Wednesday 12 June          Colchester Stadium

SOUTH          Thursday 13 June              Holiday Inn, Basildon

WEST             Wednesday 19 June          Weston Homes Takeley

MID                 Thursday 20 June               Chelmsford City Football Club

The agenda will include updates from the Local Authority, including:

  • SEND Organisational Design
  • Safeguarding – lessons learnt from recent Ofsted inspections
  • Excellence in Essex – Review linked to School Improvement System
  • Education Traded Data Package
  • Elective Home Education/Flexi- Schooling Guidance
  • Headteacher well-being and support
  • Sale of EES

The EPHA slot at the meeting will include the area annual general meeting. Please see the nomination form attached for your local representatives - and consider joining the EPHA Executive to represent your colleagues and help inform and support all primary heads in Essex.

In addition, we will be running a session on Understanding the demands of the exclusion process
This session is not intended to encourage exclusions, but instead will highlight the expectations that are on headteachers, staff and governors, when taking the serious step of excluding a pupil. James Hutchon is a paralegal/legal executive who advises and clerks numerous Independent Review Panel meetings. These “hearings” are a significant step up from the exclusions’ review meetings conducted by the school’s panel of governors, and it is essential that school leaders understand the process and expectations that are an integral part of defending the headteacher’s decision to exclude.

Safeguarding Forum meeting
In the afternoon Jo Barclay will run the termly safeguarding forum meeting in each area – headteachers are very welcome to stay on and attend, and other staff from schools across the area will join the meeting (from 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm).

If you plan to attend the safeguarding forum, please make sure you have booked a place via the Infolink
