Spring term primary headteacher meetings

Friday 10th February 2017

The Area Primary Headteacher meetings will be held just after half term- see dates and venues below. The meetings will start at 9.00 am and will include, as always, refreshments and lunch. You are likely to want to attend your local meeting, but if the date doesn’t work for you please do attend any of the other meetings. There is no need to book, just turn up (leaving some time for parking) and enjoy the day.

The spring term newsletter will be circulated at the meeting, and this includes the dates for the headteacher meetings in the summer term.

The dates of the meetings are:

SOUTH                       Wednesday 22 February        Weston Homes Community Stadium
NORTH EAST              Thursday 23 February             Holiday Inn, Basildon
WEST                         Wednesday 1 March            Weston Homes Business Centre, Takeley
MID                              Thursday 2 March                  Chelmsford City Football Club

The agenda will include updates from the Local Authority, including information about the future of the school improvement service, and the budget for 2017/18.

In the morning of the North East and South meetings, headteachers will have a chance to hear from James Bowen, director of NAHT The Edge.
The session will include a national policy update, looking at current priorities including funding and assessment. James will also discuss how NAHT are expecting Ofsted to change under a new Chief Inspector and what this might mean for schools.

The afternoon session of the South, North East and Mid meetings will be a safeguarding update from Andrew Hall, Success in Schools.
Since 2011 Andrew Hall has focused on supporting schools and colleges with their safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures. Andrew’s training focusses on the needs of school staff and headteachers and ensures that he shares practical strategies that really make a difference. In addition to supporting safeguarding work in schools, Andrew now works hard to help pupils, staff and parents learn to keep themselves safe whilst using the internet.

This session will cover:

  • Effective Safeguarding
  • Policy into Practice
  • Governor Responsibilities
  • Extremism
  • Understanding Grooming

At the West meeting Prue Rayner, HMI, will give headteachers an update on current inspection news, including the impact of the appointment of the new HCMI, Amanda Speilman, in January, and feedback from inspections in Essex and further afield.

In the afternoon there will be a repeat of the popular RAISEonline workshops held in December, to enable West heads to attend (or re-attend) with their assessment leaders.Facilitator – Andy Best, For Schools Education Services
