Spring term 2013 headteacher meetings - agendas and information presented at the meetings

Monday 18th February 2013

The four termly headteacher meetings took place in February/March and a huge amount of information was discussed and shared.

The EPHA Spring term newsletter was distributed at the meetings and heads were reminded that the annual Headteachers' conference is coming up, on the 15th March.

The LA agenda included a chance to discuss the changing education landscape and the Local Authority's vision for education, working in partnership towards solutions for Essex. This was led by Tim Coulson, the Director for Education and Learning (and Clare Kershaw at the South and North East meetings). Tim referred to a recent report produced by ISOS, who undertook a consultation on behalf of the Local Authority last term. A draft strategy is being developed and the meetings gave headteachers a chance to express their views about the proposed future of education in Essex. In addition, Jo Twine talked about the Education Estates Strategy. Jo can be contacted at jo.twine@essex.sch.uk

The Local Authority also provided a briefing paper on a number of issues, including the Satisfactory School project and a strategic review of Key State 1 and 2 PRU provision.

There was an update from HR about the proposed new teachers' pay and conditions at each meeting and a session with each of the Local Directors for Social Care. The Early Years Foundation Stage will present an update and a briefing paper about EYFS assessment and information about moderation training. The EYFS profile handbook (the "best handbook ever" according to Karen Musgrove!) was also discussed at the meeting.
