The ninth annual Essex Primary Headteachers' conference - Friday 15th March 2013

Monday 11th February 2013

The programme and booking form for this year's EPHA Headteachers' Conference has been sent out to all schools in the internal post system.

Our ninth annual conference is being held on Friday 15 March 2013 at Stock Brook Country Club, Nr Billericay.
We are delighted that Estelle Morris and Matthew Syed are both speaking at the conference, along with others at the forefront of national and local leadership and education today.

Estelle Morris's key note speech will focus on "Keeping Control in Times of Change". We are all aware that schools are under huge pressure in the current political environment. This key note speech aims to explore how much freedom Headteachers actually have and how they can maintain control of their own school - and their own destiny!

Estelle started her career in education as a teacher in an inner city multi racial comprehensive school where she taught for 18 years. In 1992 she entered Parliament and in 2001 became the Secretary of State for Education and Skills. Since leaving parliament she has combined a career that includes senior posts both in education and the arts as well as being a member of the House of Lords.
Estelle's roles in education have allowed her to see the education landscape from classroom teacher to senior policy maker and it is this breadth of experience that is now reflected in her comments and analysis of education.

Matthew Syed was born to a Pakistani father and Welsh mother in Reading, southeast England, in 1970. His first book, "Bounce", was published in April 2010 and has been described as "one of the most intelligent and thought-provoking books about sport ever written". Matthew is currently a columnist and feature writer for The Times.

His presentation is titled: The Talent Myth - and its implications for education.
Matthew uncovers the "hidden logic of success" behind the careers of world-beaters from David Beckham and Serena Williams to Mozart and Picasso. Along the way he explains why some people thrive under pressure and others choke. He weighs the value of innate ability against that of practice, hard work and will. From sex to maths, from the motivation of children to the culture of big business, "Bounce" shows how competition provides a master key with which to unlock the mysteries of the world.

After a delicious lunch, headteachers will be able to choose from one of three workshops - details in the programme. As you can see, an interesting and informative day is planned, and we hope very much that you will be able to attend. Once again the conference is priced very competitively at a modest £80 per delegate.

Please send your booking form and payment for the conference to the EPHA Manager, Pam Langmead, to the address on the form.
