Information about the Summer term headteacher meetings in June, dates for 2012/13 and EPHA updates

Wednesday 16th May 2012

The summer term headteacher meetings will be going ahead as usual this term, despite changes in the Local Authority. The newly appointed Quadrant Commissioners across Essex (many of whom you will know very well) will be attending the meetings to support headteachers and we are pleased to let you know that Dr Tim Coulson, the new Director for Education and Learning, will also be attending.

This term, the main part of the "EPHA/School improvement" meeting (as opposed to the meeting with LA officers) will give headteachers the chance to attend a FREE two and a half hour workshop run by HR focusing on the new staff appraisal and capability regulations which come in to force in September. We are also offering you the opportunity to bring along your Deputy or another member of the senior leadership team (though this must be limited to just one additional person from each school, because of the venue and workshop capacity) - their place will also be FREE.

Because we are running this training, we do need you to let us know if you plan to attend the meeting this term and whether you will be bringing your Deputy or senior leader. I have sent out an invitation and agenda for the day in the internal post just before half term, which we would be grateful if you could return, to enable us to plan refreshments and resources for the workshops. Unfortunately, we cannot offer your Deputy lunch (as EPHA is subsidising this event), but hope that they will be able to attend the workshop.

The dates for the meetings this term are:

South - The Belvedere - Wednesday 13 June 2012 - HR workshop - 9.00 am - 11.50 am, followed by the South EPHA AGM and the LA meeting in the afternoon

North East - Weston Community Homes (Colchester) Stadium -Thursday 14 June 2012- LA meeting in the morning followed by the NE AGM in the morning and the HR workshop 1.30 pm - 4.00 pm

Other information

I have recently posted the DfE consultation document in relation to a national school's funding formula, on the EPHA website. The consultation closes on 21 May 2012, so please have a look at that and respond to the consultation soon.

Your local EPHA and Lead Link representatives have just attended the Area Development Group meetings, and composite minutes of those meetings are now available on the EPHA website. Topics discussed included the plans for schools' broadband in 2012/13, the progress and support available from Social Care, and reports from the Primary Schools Facilitators and the Heads of Locality, Commissioning and Partnerships in each area. The recently completed District needs assessments and health reports were shared at the meetings and this detailed information about each district can be found on the Area Development Group page of the EPHA website
