Funding for pupils unable to attend Academies due to illness, pregnancy or anxious school refusal

Sunday 22nd May 2011

Academies are responsible for providing education for pupils on their roll who are unable to attend school due to illness, pregnancy or anxious school refusal. Academies will need to consider how they will provide this service and ensure that the needs of a vulnerable cohort of pupils are met. The Local Authority is happy to enter into discussions with academies on how we can continue to work together to put in place appropriate educational programmes for these pupils.

The Local Authority is currently preparing a menu of charges for pupils supported by the Children's Support Service and for new referrals. All schools will receive a communication setting out these charges in June.

It would be helpful to receive confirmation of whether or not, in principle, academies wish to continue with the service currently provided by the Children's Support Service. Obviously, any final commitment will be subject to agreeing specific conditions and charges.

Meanwhile, if you have any queries or you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me.
