Report of the RSC Primary Area Seminar - held on 10 October 2016

Friday 14th October 2016

Headteachers and governors were invited to attend a series of Primary Area Seminars, held at a number of locations across the Eastern Region. The Essex meeting was held on Monday 10 October at the Holiday Inn in Basildon. The seminar was led by Tim Coulson, Regional Schools Commissioner for the East of England and North East London (EENEL) region. He was supported by Claire Mycock, Deputy Director, Dan Cooke and Rosemary Prince.

The two hour seminar focused on:

  • An update of performance across the region
  • The role of RSCs and the accountability landscape;
  • Academisation so far, MATs and free schools; features of high performing MATs;
  • Implications of the Education and Adoption Act (coasting schools, etc);
  • Introduction of the “Schools that work for everyone” Government proposals

I have attached my notes of the seminar and the presentation that was shown.

EPHA will be developing a response to the proposals in “Schools that work for everyone” but it is essential that as many headteachers and governors as possible respond. The consultation document can be found below and the consultation runs until 12 December 2016::
