Welcome back to the autumn term 2016

Thursday 8th September 2016

I hope that you had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the (unusually good!) weather.

You will be delighted to hear that the DfE has been uncharacteristically quiet over the summer, but Ofsted has updated a number of documents, including the Section 5 and Section 8 handbooks. I have also attached the new Ofsted safeguarding briefing document, which is well worth reading to ensure that you are meeting its requirements. (I will update the “compliance checklist” in the next few days, and will send that out to you.)

The DfE has updated the document about “Implementing your schools approach to pay” (maintained schools and LAs), which I have attached.

Keeping Children Safe in Education has been reviewed and updated, and came into force on 5th September - make sure that all of your staff read at least Part 1 of the guidance.

Last, but not least, I have attached the June 2015 Prevent Duty advice for schools, which may have passed you by.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome any new headteachers who have started in Essex schools this term – please look out for your EPHA Welcome Pack which I will send to your schools, and  I look forward to meeting you in the coming weeks.
